Don's Magical Formula (Batters)

A place to discuss the new strato scoring system that will be implemented in 2008

Don's Magical Formula (Batters)

Postby twentysix on Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:02 am

FYI... here is version four of Don's spreadsheet for batters. It's getting pretty close. There still is some tweaking needed (see Don's email below) but he's made his way through a lot of the variables needed surrounding batters. Take a look and see what you think and let everyone know if you agree/disagree with anything. These would have been last years prices, relatively speaking. Once the formulas are completed we will need to decide wat we want the most expensive and least expensive players to approximately cost, etc. to determine prices (based on divisor number) and team cap.

Things look good, from what I can tell. But, it's still hard to fully
gauge without everything being done as arms, playing time, etc. do
factor into things. I like what I see though.

I like the location field you created as well.

As for the fielding, that's understandable. I think we will just need
to tweak that as needed.

I finished up the pitcher and catcher fielding sheets. Note, the
catcher fielding values may not be 100% correct as I didn't spend any
time trying to figure out what say a W/S or P/P on the catcher chart is
worth. But I'm probably not way off. Also, after doing the catcher
column, I realized that the fielding value I'm using is taking the
"best" fielding value of all the positions the player plays. This
doesn't work well if the player plays catcher, even if it's say his last
position listed. The reason is the catcher fielding just isn't worth
much, so the catcher fielding is the best fielding value for most
players. So, I think I'm going to modify to use the first fielding
position listed for the player. There might be some exceptions where
the player is really better at another position that he'd probably
actually play at. If we see this, we may want to tweak some player
fielding values to take this into consideration.

Here's what I see as being left.

1 - Figure out values for catcher chart results.
2 - Use first fielding position for fielding value.
3 - Outfield Arms
4 - Catcher Arms
5 - Player Usage Rules (and adjust values appropriately)

6 - Pitchers

7 - Revisit Stealing and running Values
