2008 Clutch Hitting Rules

A place to make final decisions on the rule book for the 2008 season

Should we use clutch hitting in 2008?

Do away with clutch hitting because strato does not specifically base it on RISP with two outs as they should

Continue to use it since we know what value starto assigns and we can reflect it in the price of the card

2008 Clutch Hitting Rules

Strato's handling of clutch hitting is questionable since the math they use is fuzzy at best. How should we handle clutch hitting in 2008?

Let's discuss the different options before anyone votes. Thanks.

The reason I don't like clutch hitting is this:

- It doesn't actually appear to be based on two-outs, men in scoring position stats. And even if it was, the number of at bats would be small and I'm guessing players have good and bad clutch hitting seasons at about the same rate as other special situational hitting.

- No other situations have special rules in strat. Why don't they have a no-outs, no-one on base special situation as this would really help guys like Ichiro. Why single out one of many special hitting situations?

- Hot hitting, cold hitting, hitting in the clutch, day hitting, playing on grass, home/away, etc. will all happen naturally, so you don't need to modify the cards to make these special stats happen.

- If a guy really wasn't clutch, wouldn't his ability to hit HRs or Doubles also be affected? Strat's rule only affects the players ability to hit Singles. This also doesn't make sense to me.

- The big hitters (Manny, Pujols, Howard, ARod, etc.) seem to be hurt the most. But we like the big hitters and they're a big part of the fun of playing strat. So I'd like to see those guys have a chance to perform as the star players we want them to be.

I like all the points you are making but getting clutch hits is fucking fun! Damn there is nothing better than my shitball 7 pointers getting a freaking 1-9 clutch hit to win my game with two outs in the ninth. I know that is a rare scenario, but I would hate to lose that aspect of the game. Does it really raise the prices of guys like Manny and the like that much? I honestly don't understand that aspect very well, I'll admit.
